Who is ready for a little DIY farmhouse decor? There is just something about the farmhouse look that is so calming and easy going. But if you go out here and purchase farmhouse décor then you could pay a pretty penny. So, let’s get a little DIY farmhouse décor party going on!
What’s even better is that you can buy the items at your local Dollar Store!
Eeeeekkkk! Can you sing “Pretty and Cheeeaap!”

Sam at Zest It Up has the right idea with this little gem. All she done was painted some coated wire baskets with Rustoleum Hammered spray paint and she has something for organization and style.
You can do so much with these little baskets. You can use them in your bathroom, office, heck, you could even use them in your kitchen to hold some smaller items on your cabinet or in your living room or entry for a mail drop.
I can even see this hung on the wall as a wall décor where you could hang photos on the inside.
Speaking of the wall. You may could even find some tall wire baskets. Paint one and put a little sign on the front that says mail for your mail drop. On the bottom you could hang some S-hooks to hang your keys.
For these super cute vases Sara D. at Sincerely Sara d also used Rustoleum spray paint. She found her vases in thrift stores. Go visit her page to see what they looked like before.
But, you can easily make these items from vases and candlestick holders you buy at the Dollar Tree for just a $1.00 a piece.
The Dollar Tree has tall wide mouth vases. Take one of these and use ceramic glue to attach it to a short candlestick holder or a short vase turned upside down. Spray paint that baby white and throw in some fresh cut flowers. Nothing says country or farmhouse like flowers in a pretty centerpiece.
The Dollar Tree has all kinds of options where you can attach vases, candlestick holders, and dishes together to make some pretty awesome looking pieces. You can even attach a metal pie pan to an upside down candle vase to use for your fruit centerpiece.
I used these to make candy holders for a baby shower I helped put together. Super cute, little green and pink tutu and all. Sorry, got carried away. This would be for another day.
Sara at Twelve on Main shows us how she takes just regular ole some type of metal canisters she bought at a thrift store and turn them into these farmhouse style masterpieces.
After cleaning up the canisters she just painted them white and then used some stencils and black paint to put on the letters.
Oh my goodness, this stuff excites me! I love it when I can find super easy projects like this!
Now, you don’t have to go sifting through a thrift store or spend your evening at an auction looking for canisters. Unless that is how you want to spend your evening.
What you can do is run to local Dollar Store and buy some glass canisters with the little metal latchy thing that holds the lid down and paint these with your white paint and black letters.
Here is the glass, latchy canisters I was talking about.
Wouldn’t these be so cute and farmhouse looking?
Katie at Little House of Four has the right idea when it comes to simple and cheap. She just went to the Dollar Tree and grabbed some flowers to put in her vases.
Don’t have vases? That’s OK. Remember before when I mentioned that the Dollar Tree has vases?
They work just fine for DIY farmhouse décor being just who they are. Simple and clear.
Grab a few vases and simple flowers then you will have a nice looking little piece.
Remember the wire basket idea earlier?
Yeah. You’re starting to see the picture. I mean literally. I got the idea from Katie’s picture you see here. Hey, if you don’t have a creative bone in your body then you use what you got. Thank you Katie! 😊
In these cute little terra cotta planters Tonya at Rustic & Woven planted herbs. She painted them with white chalk paint and then stamped them with the letters.
You could even paint them with the same white paint you are using for the rest of your décor. Of course, the chalk paint is works great too but if you already have white paint sitting around then you might as well use it.
Although these are being used for herbs you could easily do the same thing for flowers. Yeah, some may thing it strange that you put the name of an obvious flower on the pot but we are looking for cute farmhouse looks not who can name the most flowers without being told!
Kristin Kay is so creative and talented! What I wouldn’t give to have half that creativity. Oh poor me!
Anyhow, Kristin shows us how to do a super cute wall décor using signs, wall art, and flowers.
She mentions that the pig and cow signs may no longer be available at the Dollar Store. If they aren’t you could buy a couple brown picture frames from the Dollar Store and add a few strokes of chalk paint. Then get online and find you couple of farmhousey pictures, print them out and put them in the frames. I think I would leave the glass out of the frames and then hot glue them to the signs.
Karianne at Thistle Wood Farms shows us how to make some plain ole wicker baskets into some gorgeous DIY farmhouse décor.
Now if you don’t have any wicker baskets and you can’t find any at the Dollar Store then grab some weave baskets. They may be plastic and possibly blue but with some grayish or even brownish spray paint and a little dab of chalk paint swiped across them they could be number ready.
If you use the weave baskets I would suggest putting a piece cardboard or something so that when you spray paint the numbers then it doesn’t go on through the holes and get on the other side of the basket.
While we are here just take a look at Karianne’s beautiful display she has going on there. Now I’m sure those pieces are probably original pieces but my cheap eyes are seeing Dollar Tree all over that thing! I mean look at it!
You can create that whole thing with vases, pie pans, bowls, candlestick holders, picture frames with even the glass, and plates AAALLLLL from the Dollar Tree. I need one of those cabinets.
Inspired by Karianne above with her number baskets I set out to create my own.
I purchased this cute basket with handles at the Dollar Store and then using some white paint and stencils I painted, as you can already see, the word “Mail”.
I have been trying to find something to put under my Communication Center to just drop the mail in until I have time to sort through it.
As you can see it didn’t take long for it to begin filling up!
There’s nothing more than I like better than looking at all the creativity that our fellow bloggers have. Perhaps a little jealous. Yes, definitely a little jealousy and a mild pity party but once I get past that then dang I love to find new stuff my friends come up with.
I’m sure there are many more out there that I’m not even aware of. Do you have any sweet little farmhouse décor projects you have done? If so, I would love to see them listed in the comments. I wouldn’t even mind if you have a link to your project as long as it is relevant to what we are doing here.
Did you find a project you are ready to start planning?
